What Is a DNS Leak?
Every time you visit a website, your device sends a DNS (Domain Name System) query to translate the domain name into an IP address. Normally, a VPN routes these queries through its own secure DNS servers. A DNS leak occurs when these queries bypass the VPN tunnel and are sent to your ISP's DNS servers instead — exposing every website you visit to your internet provider.
DNS leaks are dangerous because they can reveal your entire browsing history to your ISP, even when you think you're protected by a VPN. Many VPN protocols, especially on older systems, fail to properly redirect DNS traffic, creating a silent privacy hole.
How Our DNS Leak Test Works
We generate 10 unique random subdomains and resolve them through a specialized DNS server. The server records which IP address made the DNS request — revealing the resolver handling your queries. If the resolver belongs to your ISP rather than your VPN provider, you have a DNS leak.
